Our ambition is to position DxO as a trusted brand synonymous with image quality
DxO Labs offers products and solutions ensuring excellence in digital imaging. The company develops and licenses patented intellectual property serving the entire digital imaging chain:
- Embedded software, silicon architectures and optical designs for still and video image real time processing;
- Image quality evaluation and measurement tools and methodologies;
- Raw conversion and image quality enhancement PC and Mac software for consumers.
Today, from its headquarters in Europe and its offices in the USA, Japan and Korea, DxO Labs serves customers in all areas of digital imaging, including:
- Consumer electronics OEM/ODM such as digital camera vendors and camera phones vendors;
- Imaging component suppliers: camera module manufacturers, sensor vendors, and processor vendors;
- Demanding photographers, as well as photography journalists and imaging experts.
DxO Labs was created in 2003 as a spin-off of Vision IQ, a world-leader in the field of computer vision, thereby benefiting from the latter’s 10 years’ experience in the field of image processing. Capitalizing on this image processing experience and continuing its R&D activities, DxO Labs has generated a wide range of innovative technologies and a steadily growing patent portfolio.
A unique mix of image processing, silicon design and optical design technologies
DxO Labs’ patented technologies are a result of strong collaboration with a network of leading academic research centers and key individuals in applied mathematics. The firm’s technologies are acknowledged by top photographic experts and image processing scientists around the world as the state-of-the-art in digital image processing. Our prominent Scientific Committeereflects the company’s roots in academic research. As a result, DxO Labs can ensure it always delivers the best possible technology to its customers.
The ever increasing resolution of cameras and the corresponding ever shrinking size of pixels put immense pressure on imaging performance and component size. With pixel sizes now reaching below 2µm, the challenge can no longer be addressed purely with traditional optics and electronics. DxO Labs propose a new approach where digital processing can relieve some of the optical and electronic constrains.
In order to face these challenges, DxO Labs has built a strong R&D multi-disciplinary team worldwide. With an optimized knowledge base of all aspects of camera system performance and design, this team is then able to craft solutions which uniquely adapt to the particular constraints or requirements of a given application.
For example, in order to reduce the optical system cost, DxO Labs developed an innovative extended depth of field (EDoF) technology. Based on using the principles of longitudinal chromatic aberration, the solution allows a fixed focus lens paired with DxO Digital Optics technology to achieve performance normally only available in a lens system with an actuator. The elimination of the actuator results in dramatic cost savings, both in terms of materials and improved yields for the simpler fixed focus camera design.
Where photographic images are concerned, experience proves that, for the general public, quality is far and away the primary factor affecting satisfaction. DxO Labs’ mission is to provide its customers--professionals and end-users alike--with solutions that represent the worldwide state-of-the-art in the field of image processing, with the objective of achieving the highest possible level of image quality at a reduced bill of materials.
DxO Labs’ ambition is for the “DxO” brand to become recognized as the consumer’s trusted mark of excellence in image quality.
