Powerful Denoising

Noise is one of the photographer’s enemies and arises in high ISO images.
Removing noise from RAW files is a very difficult task but leads to better results than removing noise from JPEG files.
DxO Optics Pro offers both options:

Breakthrough noise removal for RAW images

A key characteristic of DxO Optics Pro’s new RAW Engine is that instead of applying noise reduction techniques after demosaicing, a newly-developed noise reduction is performed upfront, before noise has a chance to be amplified by the conversion process and absorb important fine details.

Combined with other proprietary techniques, DxO Optics Pro v5’s new RAW Engine produces both the most detailed and most natural looking images yet, its very fine and homogenous grain translating into subtle shades and textures. DxO Optics Pro v5’s new RAW conversion engine has been fine-tuned and optimized with the rest of DxO’s automated image enhancement features (optical corrections, color rendering, exposure optimization, etc…) to produce best-in class results.

This breakthrough noise removal technology is specially-tailored for each camera that we support. Competitor RAW converters used to generate example images in this page include (in no specific order) Apple Aperture, Adobe Camera RAW 4.1, Nikon Capture NX, SilkyPix, PhaseOne v4 Beta, Bibble.

Noise removal for JPEG images

Although not quite as spectacular as noise removal on RAW images, DxO Optics Pro noise removal on JPEG images reduces noise by up to 2 stops
Pict 1: There is an equivalent noise reduction of 2 stops between both images.

DxO Noise Engine automatically reduces image noise by up to two stops while preserving maximum detail.

For example, an image shot at 1600 ISO and processed by DxO Noise Engine will present a noise level equivalent to an image shot at 400 ISO.

Because DxO Noise Engine is specifically tailored for camera body that we support. , it can only be used on images taken with cameras that have been calibrated by DxO Labs. DxO Noise generally achieves a 2-stop improvement in image noise level. For example, an image shot at 1600 ISO and processed by DxO Noise will display the noise level and detail performance of an image shot at 400 ISO. The following table shows objective measurements performed on Canon 10D images demonstrating the 2-stop improvement in Signal-to-Noise Ratio.
