I think that many photographers overlook the potential of DxO for truly amazing black-and-white conversions from RAW files. For unequalled black-and-white conversion, first bring the saturation to of the image to 0. The key is then to increase the Local Contrast slider anywhere from 50% to 100% for dramatic images that "pop".
