NyghtFalcon Photography was founded in January, 2003, by Falcon, JD and Rayn. Each came to NyghtFalcon Photography by very different paths. For JD, there had been no interest in art or photography before a long hike with Falcon on the Virginia Creeper Trail near Damascus, VA, in September 2002. The photos he created that day would prove to be the beginning of an interest that has become his profession and his passion. His early work focused primarily on nature. Over the past 18 months JD's body of work has grown and he has distinguished himself for his work in fashion and glamour. JD's understanding of lighting, and his ability to use a two dimensional lens to stretch three dimensional space allows him to create very unusual visual effects. His images often achieve a level of technical excellence that is remarkable. Like Falcon, he couples strong technical skills with his artistry.
 
Rayn had a long standing history as an artist and photography was a natural extension of that. Her work often combines her intuitive sense of composition with elements of classical training. Her preference for classical black and white photography and her attention to even the smallest detail remains her hallmark. Rayn's subjects range from the common every day seen through her uncommon eyes, to major occasions like weddings. Among her best work we count a number of photographs from Charleston and Savannah taken at night.
 
The group's signature style includes a number key elements – the unusual sense of composition, strong shadows and rich colors, detailed texture and intense emotion – find their roots in Falcon's past. A published poet, a PhD in Biblical Theology, formerly an executive in information technology and Smithsonian Medalist, Falcon never intended to pursue photography as a career. Traveling in Europe, he purchased his first digital camera in order to send photos back to a woman who could not travel with him. One night, as he attempted to photograph a vase on the other side of a window in Basel, Switzerland, he discovered that if he turned the flash off, held the camera securely in the hollow of his hand between the thumb and fore finger and braced his arm against his abdomen, he could get a photo of the vase. That was the first of many nights and hundreds of photographs taken with virtually no light.  With the end of that six year relationship, Falcon decided to pursue his photography full time. In the fall of 2002, still trying to come to terms with what had happened, Falcon created his first series of photographs. Called “Tea and Sympathy”, the series took its name from an old song by Janis Ian by the same name. Falcon had found the lyrics in an old song book and they seemed sadly appropriate for what he was then experiencing.. The series met with critical acclaim and was published in the last edition of Life Imitating Art magazine. This was the first of many publications of the group's work.
 
Series like Tea and Sympathy embody the group’s passion for photography as an art . "Because the moment can last forever" was the company's first tag line and in many ways that phrase still captures the essence of the company's passion. For JD, Rayn, and Falcon, photography holds open a moment in time forever. Every aspect of that moment – the emotion, the physical sensations….live again. As a company and individually as artists, they are committed to capturing each moment in time forever.
 
Since 2003, the company's focus has evolved. No longer focused simply on fine art photography, NyghtFalcon Photography focuses on what the group calls fine commercial photography – the intersection between fine art and very high end commercial photography. Target markets include fashion and glamour, exclusive weddings, and general fine commercial work. Over the past three years the company has won a number of awards and has been honored by its inclusion in Canon's Professional Services Group, and now as one of DxO Labs' Image Masters. In 2005, GraphiStudio (Italy) included NyghtFalcon's work among the best wedding photographers in the world. The group's work has been featured in many regional publications in the southeastern United States. Falcon's work has been featured twice in Digital Camera World (UK). His photo, "Tracy", received the magazine's Star Photo Award in 2004, and was the inspiration for the company's on going "Face of Woman" Project.
 
Now in its second phase, The "Face of Woman" had its world premiere opening in September 2005 at the Upstairs Gallery in Greensboro, NC. The first series produced a limited edition book. The second volume is in progress. Like "Tea and Sympathy" and several other projects, the "Face of Woman" embodies the group's passion for photography as an art as well as the conceptual nature of the group's work. The second phase is scheduled for completion in late 2007.
