DxO Optics Pro has long stood out from other Raw-processing software. Not only does it save processing time but it does what it sets out to do very well.
The Denoising tool still is one of the best around, and it has become even better with an added dead pixels slider.

The raw conversions are of a very high standard, and are particularly good at reducing noise in high ISO shots.

[...] There is obvious benefit to having the most pleasing image to work with at the very start of the image editing process. And while each app handles colors from some camera models better than others, it's hard to find much fault with DxO Optics Pro 8's default settings.
01/24/2013Despite the many advantages of digital photography, do you still find yourself hankering for the look of your favorite films? You're not alone, and software such as DxO Labs' FilmPack aims to provide a solution.
DxO clearly knows a thing or two about lenses. [...] Lens corrections are applied to images by default, and there’s even subtle colour correction via the Smart Lighting tool. This is a new feature in version 8, and it did a superb job of tweaking the luminance curve to reveal details in shadows and highlights without excessively altering the rest of the image.

Bugged by that edge distortion (anamorphosis) at the sides of your wide-angle photos? DxO’s new software uses its lens know-how to fix that, as well as keystoning and tilted horizons, recropping as needed and showing you side-by-side before and after versions.
This version makes it easy with some new, simplified but even more powerful tools
DxO ViewPoint does what no Perspective control can. The product [is] not just useful but beloved
. It knows how to correct for wide angle distortions and it can credibly recast your image after you indicate just which lines are converging. And it does more, letting you fade the correction back to something that looks a bit less like an isometric drawing and chose a different crop. Those are two very nice touches that make the product not just useful but beloved. You know if you need this. You've hungered for it. But now, at least, you can make that omelette. With a nice golden egg
I did enjoy working with the variations scheme the program affords, and especially with the Creative Presets [...]
where the poetic descriptors did triumph, and with the ability to choose among what must be hundreds of thousands of options for how an image could be rendered. The Software succeeds in very easy-to-use, straightforward manner that might make some creative photographers who have sweated and labored over the intricacies of programs like Photoshop blush.
Great value - 8/10
An effective Plug-in for replicating photographic film effects
DxO FilmPack 3 is a fun software that does a great job at giving your pictures a unique look
— if that’s what you’re looking for. I, for my part, enjoyed using it very much. The interface is pretty straightforward, and there are a lot of options for fine-tuning the various film presets and for further enhancing the look of the processed image.
It offers its own brand of nondestructive image editing, with tonal, exposure, geometric, and optical corrections that make it stand apart from the crowd. .
Noise Removal (NR) in DxO Optics Pro is much easier to use than any NR plug-in I’ve ever encountered, and better. Another neat tool is single-shot HDR. Normally, I don’t believe in such expedient measures, but Optics Pro has me believing that it can be done, and done well
CNET's Stephen Shankland went behind the scenes near Paris to see DxO put the highly anticipated EOS 5D Mark III through its paces. It's a rare look at one of the world's preeminent camera testers.
So you think you're a camera expert? Well, when was the last time you evaluated a camera by spending days analyzing hundreds of test photos? That's what DxO Labs does, over and over, publishing results so far for 185 cameras on its DxOMark Web site. To see what lies behind those performance scores, CNET visited the company as it put one hotly anticipated camera through its paces: Canon's hot new video-capable SLR, the EOS 5D Mark III...
For what it's designed to do, optimise images, DxO Optics Pro is in a class of its own. It probably always will be.
DxO Optics Pro is a high-end raw developer designed to extract the maximum optical quality from laboratory calibrated lens combinations, but also offering maximum freedom to the user to use the same tools with unsupported combinations, or for creative effects... Verdict: 5 stars
DxO Optic’s Pro’s powerful feature is its capacity to correct the unique optical distortions inherent to your own particular combination of camera body and lens. And it does a lot of other good things.
Lens Softness adjustment makes images look remarkably crisp without the tell-tale halos typical of the unsharp mask.

The application enables a good level of creative experimentation with very good results.
FilmPack is so intuitive to use that the manual is almost unnecessary.
DxO Optics Pro 7 remains one of the top Camera RAW editors.
DxO Labs released DxO Optics Pro 7 some weeks ago. It now boasts dramatically improved performance, a couple of new features, and an even bigger database of bodies and lenses than ever before. DxO Optics Pro 7 remains one of the top Camera RAW editors, and much better than Adobe Lightroom in my opinion.
I was struck by how much color and tonal difference there is between different color films.
DxO Optics Pro 7 boasts a fourfold increase in batch processing speed.
11/23/2011Optics Pro 7 boasts a revamped user interface, support for more cameras and lenses and everything you’d expect from the product: RAW conversion, noise reduction, lens corrections and more.
There are alternatives, certainly, but they don't have the built-in expertise of Optics Pro's modules. Lightroom isn't in the same league when it comes to optical correction. DxO Optics Pro is not just a valuable tool but an indispensable tool.
We're delighted the company has devoted so much effort to improving it while it chases the fire storm of product introduction.
Using DxO FilmPack 3 is the best way to achieve emulation of a specific film emulsion
What a truly brilliant job DxO Labs has done! What I find fascinating is that DxO has not just tried to emulate films, but their renderings are based on colorimetric measurements of the actual emulsions. Using DxO FilmPack 3 is the best way to achieve emulation of a specific film emulsion.
We want the best of both worlds and that's what DxO aims to provide with their Filmpack 3 software.
If you love the look of film but don't want the expense or rigmarole that comes with it.
With a new user-friendly interface, 10 new film looks, 10 new colour filters and additional colour and black & white conversion controls, it's designed to make image conversions as easy as clicking a button.
09/01/2011As audiophiles miss the warmth of vinyl, many digital photogs pine for the classic look of film. Add these styles with DxO FilmPack 3.
DxO Optics Pro does an exceptional job of maximizing image quality.

"DxO FilmPack 3: Film Fidelity Without Digital Compromise"
"With FilmPack 3, the authenticity of film grain is once again within reach. The FilmPack offers the beauty of various film grains to apply to images both black and white as well as being integrated within individual film presets."
This unique tool (DxO FilmPack 3.1) remains one of our favorites.
The experience of playing with the new v3.1 presets was a pleasure. We hope they help DxO FilmPack 3 find a new audience because this unique tool remains one of our favorites. And not just because we can tell Plus-X from Tri-X.

“A nice tool at a fair price”
We think the DxO FilmPack is a nice tool at a fair price (pricing see at the DxO site). The user interface is easy to use and features a lot of control. As always we find a good preset system very important and this one implemented in FilmPack 3 works just fine.
"DxO keeps its place as a valuable option in dealing with some of my RAW files."
In a world overflowing with image-editing software, DxO Optics Pro is a shining star.
The standard raw editing features are all here, but Optics Pro also provides sophisticated distortion correction controls that allow the shooter not only to correct for a particular chosen vantage point, but also factor in the unique camera and lens combination used for the photograph.
"An easy interface with pop-up reminders to guide you through the work flow within DxO Optics Pro lets even first time users quickly adjust their images for stellar output."
The professional image editor that does the work for you
DxO Optics Pro 6 is a powerful and unique photo editing application. A user could use it as their sole image editing application, since it includes a wide range of features [...]the application will help save the user a lot of time that would otherwise be spent making tedious corrections.
"DxO Optics Pro photo software is more than a raw converter. It is an alternative to Adobe Raw converter, producing finished images for printing or the web."

DxO Optics Pro Raw Editing Software First Impressions
T. Michael Testi
"If you take your photography seriously and you want a professional product that will analyze your images and apply corrections - whether manually or automatically, then I highly recommend DxO Optics Pro 6.5."
"DxO Optics Pro is an impressive piece of software that can pull detail and quality from an image like no other."
"The range of presets allow a handy method of quick processing and the single shot HDR, even at full strength, still gives a pleasant result. The integration with Lightroom and Flickr is handy, if not flawless, and is a clear indication that the software will suit users of these other programs."
"I know many real estate photographers swear by DxO Optics Pro because of it’s automated processing capabilities and it’s quality distortion correction. Automated post-processing can save you a bunch of time if you can integrate it into your workflow."
"DxO Optics Pro 6.5 is back at the top of image editors. The program works with JPEGs and Camera RAW files and is the best application for getting the most out of a camera, its lens and the images it produces."
"The single shot HDR shows just how much information is in those shadows." [...] "I was impressed - it's already help produce slightly better looking versions of some of my commercial images."
"DxO Optics Pro v6.2 is currently the best solution I have for processing many of my images"
"Top quality RAW image processing software that integrates lens correction and image adjustment "
"One thing to note with DxO Optics Pro is that a lot of the lighting adjustments work exceedingly well at one of the 'auto' adjustment settings. Even if you're the sort of photographer who regards any use of 'Auto' in settings as a dangerous sign of moral weakness, I'd say try it out and be honest with yourself when looking at the results."
"In a world overflowing with image-editing software, DxO Optics Pro is a shining star."
DxO Optics Pro 6 wins five stars "Digital Photographer Innovation Award"
"The real killer feature, though, is its automatic lens corrections."
"Optics Pro makes other RAW converters look as if they’re doing only half a job"

"DxO Optics: Thinking Like a Photographer"
"I’ve been following that French software company for many years, and I have learned to respect the way they do things, specifically because they think about photography like photographers." "Optics Pro has one of the best noise reduction engines." " [...] I was pleased with the redesign of the interface in version 6; I am sure it will be much more accessible for non-experts."
"DxO has an extremely strong offering with version 6 of Optics Pro.[...] Many people have a difficult time adapting to a RAW workflow, and here DxO Optics Pro 6 helps out with a step by step guide."
"The noise handling is the best I've seen in any of the conversion programs, and the workflow is straight forward and intuitive. [...] The ability to correct for fringing and lens optical deficiencies is really stunning. "
"DxO Optics Pro is software that perfectly and automatically [...] corrects lens distortion, improves lens sharpness as needed, and does the best job I've ever seen of automatically optimizing highlights and shadows."
"Not only does it do a perfect job of correcting the complex distortion of ultra-wide zooms, it creates perfect straightening of fisheye images, regardless of focused distance, and that was even in version 4 that I've been using.
Unlike other shadow and highlight programs (or Photoshop or Lightroom themselves), DxO magically knows how to apply just the right amount of whatever to get my photos to sing, automatically."
"RAW deathmatch – Lightroom 3 vs DXO 6 vs Capture One 5 vs Bibble 5"
"DXO is the unchallenged master in optical corrections. If you have a supported camera and lens, the precise corrections are great, and even if the lens is not recognized, you can still apply most of the corrections – sharpness falloff, light falloff, distortion corrections, even fish-eye corrections. The most impressive feature would be the keystoning, which lets you easily correct perspective distortions – a must-have for architectural shots." "In terms of features and quality over price, DXO 6 is an absolute steal."
Four Thirds Users
"DxO Optics Pro is a pretty remarkable RAW image processing package"
“Although automatic corrections make Optics Pro stand out, there are plenty of options for manual fine tuning. I hope that [this review] will give you a taste for what Optics Pro aims to do and why it's different from your average RAW image processor.”
"With DxO Optics Pro [...] a photographer could shoot at a faster shutter speed or in dimmer conditions"
"Getting a one F-stop improvement means a photographer could use ISO 25,600 instead of holding the line at 12,800. Alternatively, for a camera such as Canon's G10 high-end compact that tops out at ISO 1,600, photographers can effectively shoot at ISO 3,200 by underexposing the image by a full stop then brightening it later in software."
"The DxO software [...] is recognized for its unique automated optical corrections (distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations, lens softness) and its state-of-the-art RAW conversion"
"The interface of Optic Pro 6 has also been significantly enhanced [...] with a wide range of available prompts and help screens to aid newcomers and beginners become familiar with the program."
Michael R. Tomkins
"The new noise processing capability is probably the standout feature of DxO Optics Pro 6"
This is a powerful program that offers more accuracy than general converters and some unique qualities that make it a truly worthwhile investment.
